MAIN PLACES TO KNOW

GRIFFIN CENTRE Room 4.  Just a short walk from the Civic Bus Interchange, a meal is provided every day except Friday by various organisations in rotation.  The most popular days are Sunday for the Spaghetti Bolognese and Wednesday for vegetarian Hare Krishna food.  Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays the food is provided by the Red Cross and I can't pretend much enthusiasm for it.  The Red Cross also often has free bread or rolls, and sometimes spare pies to take away.

BLUE DOOR - The Blue Door Cafe at Ainslie Village is run by the Society of St. Vincent de Paul.  It is open most days from 9 am to about 2.30pm.  Sandwiches are put out every so often during this time, and mugs of soup.  Some days a limited amount of hot food, or pies and sausage rolls are provided.
There are board games, free tea and coffee, and some services such as haircuts.  There is often free bread.

FRIDAY EVENING AT GAREEMA PLACE - Funded by Rotary.  This is from about 4.30 to about 7.30 or so on a Friday and it is a big social scene, as there is often free music and stuff in Gareema Place on a Friday night.  They do fruit juice, various sticky cakes and donuts, big chunks of bread and cheese and soup.  There are also giveaways: free bread (very varied, you even get pumpkin bread), containers of hommos and baba ganouj, some clothes, and other things as they are donated).

BIG PIG CAFE - This is the Youth Cafe in Cooyong St and it is pretty cool.  Open various hours, but usually from say 12pm to 7pm.  Free Internet Access, free printing, free tea and coffee, sometimes a bit of lunch or a meal in the evenings.

A NUMBER of churches and temples around the city do limited free food - maybe once a week, once a month, at Christmas, that sort of thing.  Basically the only way to know about these is to talk to customers at the free food places listed above.
